Michael Chan served as the Lead Lighting Designer for the Singapore National Day Parade (NDP) at the National Stadium. To address the challenges of the massive 38-meter trim height, Michael deployed a sophisticated rig of 500 Robe BMFL luminaires. As the lead Kinetic and Lighting Designer/Programmer for SkySymphony, Michael Chan was responsible for the intricate choreography of 1,001 LED winch balls at Resorts World Genting’s SkyAvenue. This permanent multimedia attraction—the first of its kind in Asia—uses a complex array of high-speed winches capable of traveling 17.5 meters in just six seconds. Working with Creative Director Brian Gothong Tan, Michael programmed three inaugural spectacles (The Forest, Urban Symphony, and The Goddess) using a grandMA2 ecosystem to synchronize lighting and kinetic movement with 360-degree LED wrap-around screens. Wild Rice’s Peter Pan in Serangoon Gardens: A Technological Milestone "For the grand opening pantomime at Wild Rice’s Ngee Ann Kongsi Theatre, Michael Chan delivered a groundbreaking lighting design that integrated cutting-edge automation into the intimate thrust stage. To manage the fast-paced, 500-cue production, Michael implemented Singapore's first fully automated follow-spot system using BlackTrax real-time tracking. He also utilized the Claypaky Xtylos—the world's first laser-source moving light—to create the magical, sharp-edged beams required for Neverland. By time-coding the lighting console to music director Julian Wong’s audio signals, Michael achieved 'live sync' accuracy, proving that world-class stadium technology can elevate the storytelling in a 358-seat theatrical space.

In a historic first for Kuala Lumpur’s skyline, Michael Chan of Lighting Insomnia designed a massive 12-minute light and laser spectacle to mark the Cartier 'Into the Wild' exhibition. Utilizing 120 Claypaky Mythos 2 beam fixtures positioned on the rooftop of Suria KLCC, Michael bathed the Petronas Twin Towers in Cartier’s signature crimson red. The show was fully synchronized via timecode to a musical score and a coordinated 300-drone swarm by SKYMAGIC, creating iconic brand animations 500 meters above the city. Despite a tropical storm just minutes before showtime, the system—supplied by Audio Synergy Projects & Concepts (ASPC)—performed flawlessly, demonstrating Michael’s expertise in large-scale, weather-resilient outdoor production and landmark lighting.

Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2017
In a landmark production for Singapore’s national New Year’s Eve celebration, Michael Chan served as the Flame and Lighting Designer for MBSC 2017. Working with Creative Director Samson Phua (Intermay Magix), Michael delivered the first-ever integrated moving-light display in the event's history. The design centered around 60 Claypaky Mythos fixtures arranged on a spherical floating rig in the center of the bay, representing the sun. These high-powered beams were choreographed to cut through the smoke and brilliance of the fireworks, creating a 'moving net' of color that framed the pyrotechnics. The eight-minute midnight display was synchronized to a custom arrangement of 'Glaciers' by local band In Each Hand A Cutlass, showcasing Michael’s expertise in complex, multi-element outdoor synchronization.

Sports Entertainment & Opening Ceremony "Commissioned for the 2016 BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore, Michael Chan designed the lighting for the high-octane Opening Ceremony and dramatic player entrances. Working alongside creative director Beatrice Chia-Richmond, Michael utilized over 100 moving lights—including the then-revolutionary Robe Square matrix fixtures—to create 360-degree dynamic effects that synchronized with the performance of singer Sophie Beem.
