Timecode Synchronization

In September 2022, Cartier’s "Into The Wild" exhibition in Kuala Lumpur celebrated the legacy of Jeanne Toussaint, the maison’s first female Creative Director. The event featured a historic first: a synchronized drone and light show at the Petronas Twin Towers.
Lighting Design by Michael Chan.

The spectacle was defined by the technical mastery of Michael Chan and his studio, Lighting Insomnia. Tasked with illuminating an icon, Chan overcame immense logistical challenges:
Architectural Brilliance: Chan deployed 120 Claypaky Mythos 2 fixtures across the Suria KLCC rooftop to create powerful beams of light, while filtering the towers' existing lights to glow in Cartier’s signature red.
Virtual Precision: To ensure perfection in a high-security "no-fly zone," the entire show was pre-programmed and visualized in 3D before arriving on-site.

The "Heartbeat" of the Show: With over 500 meters separating the audience, audio, and tech rigs, Chan engineered a custom timecode solution to keep 300 drones, lasers, and music in perfect synchronization.

Key Partners
Drones: Orchestrated by SKYMAGIC and 33.3.
Scenography: Exhibition design by Nathalie Crinière.
Production: Managed by Auditoire and Luxury Makers.
